My daughter and I spent a day at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival just outside of Woodburn, OR. Lots of flowers, of course, but there were also hot air balloon rides, steam tractors, food vendors, and wine!
I took a couple of days to camp at LL Stub Stewart State Park in Oregon, and to ride the Banks to Vernonia Trail. This trail is a rails to trails conversion, is fully paved the entire 21 mile length, and was a really nice ride. I also spent a few minutes in the town of Vernonia. Lumber prices are at historically high levels now, and there was lots of logging in this timber country.
In May and June of 2021 I did a little babysitting. I used the camera quite a bit, and unfortunately documented some of my shortcomings as a grandpa!
This video covers a three year period of fishing with my neighbors. They have taken me fishing, and I have actually caught fish! Historically I was renowned as the World's Worst Fisherman, but these guys have changed that. The video shows them taking me fishing for salmon, sturgeon, steelhead, and ocean fishing for salmon and bottom fish. We have been on the Columbia River at buoy 10, and over the bar into the ocean. We have fished the Columbia River near Cathlamet, and Longview, fished the Willamette River and Multnomah slough, and fished the Cowlitz and Kalama rivers.
This video is based on my desire to switch to a four wheel drive rig. I bought the Ford Expedition sight unseen from the internet auction site publicsurplus.com, without any real idea of what kind of condition it was in. It had 97000 miles on it, no interior pictures, and the condition was described as “fair.” So I wasn’t even sure it would start, and whether it would be drivable to get home. Turned out to be fine, and I spent half a day in the French Quarter in New Orleans before I left town. Then I got it home via a great road trip, stopping at Cadillac Ranch in Texas, the Rio Grande State Park in Albuquerque, Arches National Park, Guffey Bridge in Idaho, and the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.
By the end of the trip, I realized that the interior of the vehicle was in great shape, it appeared to be in very good condition mechanically, and the exterior cosmetic issues will be relatively easy and inexpensive to fix. I got really lucky with this purchase, and will end up with a nice vehicle by the time I am done. The road trip could not have gone any better for me, and ended up being a fun experience. I hope you enjoy the video!
This video was the result of a trip to the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-tailed Deer on Tenasillahe Island. This island was a short boat ride from Cathlamet, WA. The island has a levee that is six miles long encircling it, and I did the run on this levee. Saw some wildlife in a very nice environment. I didn't see another person on the island.
This video is about a a trip I made up the Cowlitz River Valley in mid March. I tour the Barrier Dam, Mayfield and Riffe lakes, Ike Kinswa State Park, and attempt to reach the Green River Horse Camp. As I like to do on trips like this, I also did a run of almost four miles in the Lewis and Clark State Park. The weather was great, and a good time was had by all.
This video is about a day spent doing runs all day, with activities between. We did 13 runs of a mile each, for a full half marathon. It really wasn’t any easier spreading the half marathon out over a full day, it was still tough. But we had a great time, and got to eat all day long.
Special thanks to a guy named Beau Miles who inspired this day of activity with his own 24 hour “A mile an hour.”
And super special thanks to Lisa, who really organized this and made it happen with the planning of the cooking, the meals, and the activities.
As I am spending time in Maine this fall (October 2020) we had an opportunity to provide an update and review of the fire truck restoration process on this International Loadstar 1700.
In the two weeks beginning September 14, 2020 I did a road to trip from my home in Kelso, WA to my daughter's house in Maine. But this is not just any trip! I am doing a run, bike, or swim each day of the trip. I am averaging about 250 miles per day, as the crow flies, so I will end up doing almost four full triathlons...... in a manner of speaking. These are generally fun activities, and this video covers what I did and where I went.

In late December of 2019 I went to Maine to visit my daughter and her family. This episode is primarily video and pictures of my grandkids. And lots and lots of snow!
